How to become a Certified Trainer under Skill India Mission
This article explains in details on how one can become a certified Trainers under Skill India Mission. As you all know that Skill India Mission is a flagship programme of Government of India. It aims to skillfully train 400 million youth in India by the year 2022. Skill India Mission is being implemented by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
After our graduation we think that we a qualified to be employed. But in reality it doesn’t seem so. In addition to our educational qualification we need to acquire skills to deliver our competencies. This is where a specific programme under Skill India Mission offers you to be a trainer. Since the over all aim of skill India Mission is to make the youth skillful, training programme offered here are suited and exclusive to youngsters.
You will be surprised to see that the qualification for you to become a trainer starts as low as 5th standard, ranges from 10th , 12th, ITI, Diploma to as high as a Post Graduate. This where the youngsters who otherwise look for job and be idle should make use of this opportunity. You could also spread awareness regarding this scheme. Because, we understand that there are people who would not even understand this article. How to apply as Training of Trainer (ToT)
Before applying ToT, make sure that you are clear about the following three aspects
- Sector in which you want to register yourself eg., Housing, IT, Manufacturing
- Role that you want to take eg., Store keeper, Assistant etc.
- Your educational qualification

Four stages of of ToT
Once you have registered yourself as a trainer in the portal. You are given with three options. You could claim them step by step and become an expert trainer.
Stage 1: Enrollment process and Shortlisting
Stage 2: Basic Certification with 10 days of duration. written and Practical assignment on your study areas is taken up here.
Stage 3: Advanced Certification On-The-Job (OJT) Training – with 3 Assignments & 3 Practicals via Webinar, Practical Observation, Online Sharing of Content Physical Observation & Feedback. Once cleared you will receive Trainer Basic Certification with 2 years of validity
Stage 4: Certification and convocation. Once cleared you will be given lifetime certificate.

Why it is important to get certified?
Although you are qualified to train others you need to possess a valid accredited certification in order for the institution which offers courses to recognize you. The future is going to be all about skill possession and skill development. Acquiring skills with a certified organization like National Skill Development Corporation under Skill India Mission should be seen as an essential step to build your profile.

In an article published on 17.9.2021 The Economic Times quotes the following ‘About 50 crore people need to be skilled in the next few years and for that there is a need of lakhs of trainers, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Secretary Ravi Mital said in Friday. He said that role of trainers is key in promoting skills’.
